The Project

“Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless;
plead the case of the widow.” Isaiah 1:17

Why are we helping in Addis Ababa?

As in all big cities, the disintegration of families can also be seen in Addis Ababa. Intensified by the drastic spread of HIV/Aids, many lose their families. Left on their own, they struggle to survive.

Why are we helping women?

Many young girls and women flee from the countryside to the capital to escape poverty, hopelessness and abuse. Without family, they often become lost in the big city. Prostitution and pregnancy are often consequences. Also the situation of a happy wife can change rapidly if her baby is born with disabilities. Many men feel overwhelmed and abandon mother and child. Alone with a baby, those women often enter a spiral of poverty that is difficult to escape without support. Family allowance or social welfare does not exist. They have to work and earn money to survive. However, most kindergartens are private and very expensive. Special needs children are often not accepted in kindergartens at all.

How do we help?

Our main concern is to address the hardships of single mothers in need. Women and children can experience that they are valuable and loved. We want to help the mothers out of poverty, begging, prostitution and life on the streets and, therefore, we offer the following programs:

  • Integrative Day Care

    50 children of single mothers in need as well as children with disabilities are prepared for school and their future through diverse child care. Children are between 2 and 5 years old. Within the day care, there are many activities including play, sports, arts and crafts, and all children receive two nutritious meals per day. In addition, every child is given hygiene items and day care uniforms.
  • Preschool Education

    Ethiopian children need to have mastered the Amharic and English alphabets, both spoken and written, as well as the basics of math. Therefore, a good preschool is important for their further development. We are sponsoring 30 preschool places in officially recognized preschools and provide children between 5 and 7 years old with all required materials, school clothing and tutoring.
  • Counseling Center For Families In Need

    We are providing education, practical and financial support for single mothers in need, families with children who have disabilities as well as families in emergency situations. We are visiting them at home or in hospitals to encourage, counsel and pray for them.
